I started playing the guitar when I was 12. My dad taught me to play. He is and was a big classic rock fan. As well as a Paul McCartney fan. So I got some great guitar lessons just by listening to music. I was always a big Christian music fan. A big part of learning for me was just sticking in a tape or CD and trying to play along. DC Talk was great for that. I started playing and leading worship for my youth praise band growing up. I had a band with in Missouri with the guys from my youth group. H.O.G. Rocks!! After high school I was busy at the church my parents pastored and also worked full time at Lowe's. Yes, I sold lots of lumber. I still remember a few item numbers. Not long after that I joined up with the rest of the guys in MercyMe and have not looked back since. I still enjoy making music and writing songs. I look forward to what the future brings.

I am so excited that you're going to keep a blog!!! That is very cool. You are my favorite member of Mercyme and have been since you joined years ago! I love bass players. I wish I could play. I only play guitar and a teeny bit of piano. But, mostly I sing opera. That's my specialty. If y'all ever need an opera singer for anything, just let me know! Can't wait to read the next blog!

I just wanted to thank you and the rest of Mercy Me for all that you do in the Christian Music industry. I love your music, testimony, but most importantly your heart in the ministry that you are involved in. We saw your Christmas Concert in Grand Rapids last year with Steven Curtis Chapman and were really blessed by it. Come back to Michigan! God bless you . . . keep your eyes focused on Christ!
I am glad you are blogging!

Dear Nate:
Love the new cd! Love the music and the message is a powerful one. I've been looking for a good CD to crank on high since Kutless Sea of Faces! It is great being able to worship and rock at the same time. Our whole family loves it.....so from 15 to 42 we are huge fans (new fans/sorry didn't like the old style). Hope to see more of this.......no pressure ;) May God bless you all and keep you strong in the faith!

Hey Guys, just want you to know how much we enjoy your music. Your sound is awesome and your writing is always amazing. However, the reason I'm writing is to thank you for not taking CHRIST out of CHRISTian music. As a pastor I've been very disgusted having to explain to our teens why there seemed to be no spiritual value at the last concert. Thankfully that's never been the case at a MercyMe concert. Keep pointing to the cross and making much of Jesus. I know a concert is viewed as intertainment, but it's the only church some of these teens attend. Thanks for keeping Jesus in the center of it all.

Thanks sooooo much for playing in your hometown Christmas. It's been a while since the Union days. I went with our youth group several times and always loved it. The show here in Greenville touched me tremendously. You guys and your music is great!
