I started playing the guitar when I was 12. My dad taught me to play. He is and was a big classic rock fan. As well as a Paul McCartney fan. So I got some great guitar lessons just by listening to music. I was always a big Christian music fan. A big part of learning for me was just sticking in a tape or CD and trying to play along. DC Talk was great for that. I started playing and leading worship for my youth praise band growing up. I had a band with in Missouri with the guys from my youth group. H.O.G. Rocks!! After high school I was busy at the church my parents pastored and also worked full time at Lowe's. Yes, I sold lots of lumber. I still remember a few item numbers. Not long after that I joined up with the rest of the guys in MercyMe and have not looked back since. I still enjoy making music and writing songs. I look forward to what the future brings.

Sorry I'm Late

So I need to start by saying that I am very sorry for the extra large gap in my posts. The last few weeks have been crazy; last minute trips to Leno, vacation in Missouri. You name it I have been up to it.
I also need to give a big thanks to everyone who has left a comment/post to this blog. I appreciate your time and your interest. Please everyone let me know if there is anything specific you would like to know and I will do my best to give you my thoughts or comments, made up or factual haha. I think there is already one reference to my time working at Lowe's. And the answer is a 80# bag of concrete.
I promise to do better. Catch ya later.
Nathan

I'm diggin' the song "Coming up to breathe" right now, but all of them are really my favorite! So great to see a little insight into your life! Tell the guys I say "hey!" Keep up the great work in spreading God's love!

Nate! You guys were incredible at SoulFest! (In NH, Gunstock Mountain in Gilford) I hoped you noticed us, but there were three people doing sign language to 'I can only imagine' right in front of you. It was me, my friend Rachel and her friend. What a concert though! Amazing. But...where was Mike?
God bless and thank you!

Hi Nate,
Blessings to you and the Mercy Me group. 'Word of God Speak' has kept me going this month. I had tickets to see you at the Northwest Washington Fair on Aug. 17th, then broke my ankle the day before. Talked to many people who did get to go and they said it was an 'awesome experience'. I hope you'll be back in Washington soon-
Thank You for your wonderful, uplifting music.

hey.

this might have NOTHING to do with anything on this site at all, but i have an honest question about a song you guys have out on the radio right now. and i thought, since you guys seem like honest Christian guys, that maybe you could help me find the answers im looking for.

there's a song called something like, "So-long self." and it just really hit me the wrong way. with all the comments and references to things like, "I found somebody else..." it just wrapped my mind right back to my parents divorce.

i know the Bible calls us to basically divorce our old-self, but when you put it into terms that are so often used when families split apart, it just really hurts rather than encourages my heart.

do you have anything to say about the lyrics? why you chose those words?

In response to aj.'s comment about the song "So Long Self":

"It is just an idea I had, it’s not about me anymore. I had to die to self. The whole concept of that song was to come across as if I was breaking up with someone and that someone happens to be me. So I think it came out pretty creative the way the whole song turned out. Even though the issue of dying itself is a heavy one, I just wanted to make it real light-hearted and almost comedic, and the music came together really, really well. It definitely made a complete song. That was one of the first ones we recorded and had mixed and we were so excited about how it turned out. That’s probably one of my favorite songs. If you think about the idea of it’s not about me anymore, it’s about Christ, it doesn’t have to be a real heavy issue. There’s definitely a good reason why you have to die to step away from yourself."
